Chain Reaction a simple, stylish design for baby quilt

Who can spot the trend? Yes, I seem to be attracted lately to patterns that can use up novelty fabrics or feature those types of designs. (Gotta be because I've been trying to clear out my stash with my quilt challenge!)

Chain Reaction is a new pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew over at CreateForLess, and I was drawn to it immediately. Looks a little different, but if you look closely, you can see that it's really a simple design. I'd think it could be sewn up pretty quickly.

Use up scraps of a fabric line, do it as an eye spy style or just feature a cool novelty fabric. I'm not normally a fan of gray, but I do like how it's used here to provide a calming backdrop so that the square-in-a-square-in-a-square blocks stand out more. I'd probably want to quilt on it with a variegated thread to liven it up, though.

The pattern finishes at a perfect 49"x 57" size for a baby quilt, but I bet it'd be easy enough to figure out how to make it bigger or smaller as needed. Oh - and you could use an extra block to make a diaper bag or pillow to match!
